    Burung Gelatik: Si Kecil Merdu dari Alam Nusantara

    Burung gelatik adalah salah satu jenis burung kicau yang telah lama menjadi favorit pecinta burung di Indonesia. Ukurannya kecil, suaranya nyaring, dan tampilannya menarik. Meski terlihat sederhana, burung ini memiliki keragaman jenis, sejarah panjang, dan peran penting dalam budaya serta ekosistem.

    Asal-Usul dan Persebaran

    Nama "gelatik" merujuk pada beberapa spesies burung kecil pemakan biji, khususnya dari famili Estrildidae dan Passeridae. Burung ini berasal dari wilayah tropis Asia, termasuk Indonesia, dan tersebar luas di hutan sekunder, lahan pertanian, taman, hingga pemukiman. Mereka hidup berkoloni dan mudah dijumpai karena suaranya yang khas dan aktivitasnya yang aktif.

    Jenis-Jenis Burung Gelatik

    Indonesia memiliki beberapa jenis gelatik yang populer, baik di alam bebas maupun hasil penangkaran:

    1. Gelatik Jawa (Padda oryzivora)

    Dikenal juga sebagai Java Sparrow, burung ini mudah dikenali dari tubuh abu-abu, kepala hitam, pipi putih, dan paruh merah muda yang besar. Dulunya dianggap hama padi, kini gelatik jawa justru masuk daftar hewan dilindungi karena populasinya menurun drastis di alam liar.

    2. Gelatik Batu (Lonchura punctulata)

    Sering disebut juga pipit munia, gelatik ini memiliki bulu cokelat dengan dada berpola sisik putih-hitam. Ia sangat umum ditemukan di seluruh Asia Tenggara dan menjadi favorit karena mudah dipelihara dan berkembang biak.

    3. Gelatik Wingko

    Merupakan sub-varian lokal dengan warna cokelat kekuningan dan tubuh mungil. Biasanya hidup berkelompok dan dikenal karena suaranya yang nyaring. Kerap digunakan sebagai burung masteran karena irama kicauannya yang ritmis.

    4. Gelatik Silver

    Ini adalah hasil mutasi warna dari gelatik jawa, yang memiliki bulu dominan perak atau putih abu-abu. Penampilannya yang unik menjadikannya incaran kolektor burung kicau.

    Kebiasaan dan Perilaku

    Gelatik dikenal sebagai burung yang aktif, cerdas, dan setia. Mereka hidup berpasangan, membuat sarang dari jerami dan rumput kering, serta gemar memakan biji-bijian seperti padi, millet, dan jewawut. Saat musim kawin, burung jantan akan rajin berkicau untuk menarik perhatian betina.

    Peran dalam Ekosistem dan Budaya

    Burung gelatik memegang peran penting dalam keseimbangan alam. Selain membantu penyebaran biji tanaman, mereka juga memangsa serangga kecil. Dalam budaya Jawa, gelatik sering dijadikan simbol kesetiaan dan harmoni, karena sifatnya yang hidup berpasangan.

    Namun, ironisnya, gelatik jawa pernah diburu besar-besaran karena dianggap hama padi. Kini, setelah jumlahnya menyusut drastis di alam liar, upaya konservasi pun dilakukan oleh berbagai pihak, termasuk lembaga konservasi dan penangkar burung.

    Status dan Konservasi

    Gelatik jawa masuk dalam daftar CITES Appendix II dan IUCN sebagai hewan terancam punah. Ancaman utamanya adalah hilangnya habitat, perdagangan ilegal, dan perburuan liar. Penangkaran menjadi salah satu solusi terbaik untuk menjaga keberlangsungan spesies ini, sembari tetap mengedukasi masyarakat tentang pentingnya konservasi.

    Kesimpulan

    Burung gelatik bukan hanya indah dipandang dan merdu didengar, tetapi juga menyimpan cerita panjang dalam sejarah pertanian, kebudayaan, dan lingkungan Indonesia. Memelihara burung ini dengan tanggung jawab berarti ikut melestarikan salah satu warisan alam Nusantara.
